chaplin'in toplumdaki eşitsizliği ve fakir kesimi ön plana çıkarma gayretinin en somut hali. filmde chaplin'in sıkça yararlandığı zengin-fakir teması esas alınarak fakir halkın yozlaşması konu ediliyor. filmi çektiği dönemde chaplin haftada 10.000 dolar kazanıyor olsa da, easy street onun en iyi kısa filmlerinden biri.

chaplin, her fırsatta kıçına tekmeyi bastığı polisin yerinde; -muhtemelen kendi icadı olan- kabadayıyı gaglarla altetme sanatıyla bir sokağa huzur getiriyor. ama bir yandan da yoksulların çalıp çırpmasına göz yumuyor; ben de bunu, polisin liberal devletteki rolüne bir eleştiri olarak okuyarak aşırıyoruyorum. ^**
