5 dalda oscar adayı (en iyi film, yönetmen dahil) ve tüm zamanların en iyi 100 ingiliz filminden biri olmasına rağmen bu kadar az bilinmesi çok gariptir.
bu işin uzmanı değilim ama bir "underrate" durumu var sanki.

2. dunya savasi sirasinda londrada yasayan bir cocugun(bill) gozunden savas... cok akici cok dogal ve eglenceli bir film...gercekten neden kimse bilmiyor?

film, savaşı çocukların gözünden anlatır ve görürüz ki; çocuk her yerde çocuk.
ve sonra anlarız ki; savaşı bir oyun olarak gören yetişkinlerin de çocuklardan pek bir farkı yok.

bir savaş draması olmasına rağmen sizi güldüren o kadar çok sahne var ki. benim en çok hoşuma giden yılbaşı gecesi içkiyi fazla kaçıran dedenin eski sevgililerine kadeh kaldırması. hem de hepsini tek tek anarak. sonra aile üyelerinin tepkilerinden anlıyoruz ki bunu her sene yapıyormuş ihtiyar.

john boormanın yarı otobiyografik filmi. çocuk gözünden mizahi bir anlatımla savaş sırasında sivil yaşam mücadelesini anlatır.
o dönemde 2 milyondan fazla çocuk daha güvenli olan taşraya akrabalarının veya koruyucu ailelerin yanına gönderilir. onlar için bir tatil başlamıştır.
bereketsiz geçen balıkta dereye alman uçağından düşen bir bomba sayesinde torunlar bir kayık dolusu balıkla eve döner ve dedenin hışmından kurtulur. başka bir bomba da açıldığı gün okulun tepesine düşer çocuklar coşku ile dağılarak tatile kaldıkları yerden devam ederler. ve benzer komik sahnelerle herşeye rağmen savaşta da gülünecek şeyler olabileceğini anlatır. sarah miles ve sammi davis (sammy degil) ve ufaklık sebastian rice edwards oldukça iyidir. ara bir seyredilesi film. hatta diğer iki (daha çok bilinen) güzel örnekle triple yapılırsa çocukluk nostaljisi için bire birdir. bu filmleri hatırlayanlar için o dönemler gelmiş sayılır. hepsi aynı dönem filmleridir.
