until the philosophy which hold one race superior
    and another
    inferior
    is finally
    and permanently
    discredited
    and abandoned -
    everywhere is war -
    me say war.

    that until there no longer
first class and second class citizens of any nation
until the colour of a man's skin
is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes -
    me say war.

that until the basic human rights
    are equally guaranteed to all,
    without regard to race -
    dis a war.

    that until that day
    the dream of lasting peace,
    world citizenship
    rule of international morality
will remain in but a fleeting illusion to be pursued,
    but never attained -
now everywhere is war - war.

and until the ignoble and unhappy regimes
that hold our brothers in angola,
    in mozambique,
    south africa
    sub-human bondage
    have been toppled,
    utterly destroyed -
    well, everywhere is war -
    me say war.

    war in the east,
    war in the west,
    war up north,
    war down south -
    war - war -
    rumours of war.
    and until that day,
    the african continent
    will not know peace,
we africans will fight - we find it necessary -
and we know we shall win
    as we are confident
    in the victory

    of good over evil -
    good over evil, yeah!
    good over evil -
    good over evil, yeah!
    good over evil -
    good over evil, yeah! /fadeout/

poets of the fall'un twilight theatre albümünden bir şarkı

    sözleri:

do you remember standing on a broken field
white crippled wings beating the sky
the harbingers of war with their nature revealed
    and our chances flowing by

if i can let the memory heal
i will remember you with me on that field

when i thought that i fought this war alone
you were there by my side on the frontline
when i thought that i fought without a cause
you gave me a reason to try

turn the page i need to see something new
for now my innocence is torn
we cannot linger on this stunted view
    like rabid dogs of war

i will let the memory heal
i will remember you with me on that field

when i thought that i fought this war alone
you were there by my side on the frontline
and we fought to believe the impossible
when i thought that i fought this war alone
we were one with our destinies entwined
when i thought that i fought without a cause
you gave me the reason why

with no-one wearing their real face
    it's a whiteout of emotion
and i've only got my brittle bones to break the fall

when the love in letters fade
it's like moving in slow motion
and we're already too late if we arrive at all

and then we're caught up in the arms race
    an involuntary addiction
and we're shedding every value our mothers taught

so will you please show me your real face
draw the line in the horizon
cos i only need your name to call the reasons why i fought

when i thought that i fought this war alone...

bob marley, haile selassie'nin 1963teki birleşmiş millet oturumunda yaptığı konuşmadan esinlenerek yazdığı parça. konuşmanın şarkıya verdiği ilham kısmı aşağıdadır:

"last may, in addis ababa, i convened a meeting of heads of african states and governments. in three days, the thirty-two nations represented at that conference demonstrated to the world that when the will and the determination exist, nations and peoples of diverse backgrounds can and will work together. in unity, to the achievement of common goals and the assurance of that equality and brotherhood which we desire. on the question of racial discrimination, the addis ababa conference taught, to those who will learn, this further lesson:
that until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned; that until there are no longer first-class and second-class citizens of any nation; that until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes; that until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race; that until that day, the dream of lasting peace and world citizenship and the rule of international morality will remain but a fleeting illusion, to be pursued but never attained; and until the ignoble and unhappy regimes that hold our brothers in angola, in mozambique and in south africa in subhuman bondage have been toppled and destroyed; until bigotry and prejudice and malicious and inhuman self-interest have been replaced by understanding and tolerance and good-will; until all africans stand and speak as free beings, equal in the eyes of all men, as they are in the eyes of heaven; until that day, the african continent will not know peace. we africans will fight, if necessary, and we know that we shall win, as we are confident in the victory of good over evil."

    şarkının orjinalinde bob marley ırkçılıktan bahsederken, sinead abla bazı yerleri 'child abuse' olarak değiştirerek söylemiş. çok azıcık değiştirilmiş versiyonu;

    until the philosophy,
    which holds one race superior
    and another inferior,
    ıs finally and permanently
    discredited and abandoned,
    everywhere is war.

until there is no longer first class
or second class citizens of any nation.
until the color of a man's skin,
ıs of no more significance than
    the color of his eyes,
    ı've got to say "war".

that until the basic human rights,
    are equally guaranteed to all,
    without regard to race,
    ı'll say "war"

until that day the dream of lasting peace,
    world-citizenship and the rule of
    ınternational morality will remain
just a fleeting illusion to be pursued,
    but never obtained.
    and everywhere is war.

until the ignoble and unhappy regime
which holds all of us through,
    child-abuse, yeah, child-abuse yeah,
    sub-human bondage has been toppled,
    utterly destroyed,
    everywhere is war.

    war in the east,
    war in the west,
    war up north,
    war down south,
    there is war,
    and the rumors of war.

    until that day,
    there is no continent,
    which will know peace.

    children, children.

    fight!

    we find it necessary.
    we know we will win.
we have confidence in the victory
    of good over evil

    fight the real enemy!

edwin starr versiyonunun sözlerini kimse yazmamış ayıptır yazıktır buyrun buradan:

    war, huh, yeah
    what is it good for
    absolutely nothing
    uh-huh
    war, huh, yeah
    what is it good for
    absolutely nothing
    say it again, y'all

    war, huh, good god
    what is it good for
    absolutely nothing
    listen to me

    ohhh, war, i despise
    because it means destruction
    of innocent lives

    war means tears
    to thousands of mothers eyes
when their sons go to fight
    and lose their lives

    i said, war, huh
    good god, y'all
    what is it good for
    absolutely nothing
    say it again

    war, whoa, lord
    what is it good for
    absolutely nothing
    listen to me

    war, it ain't nothing
    but a heartbreaker
war, friend only to the undertaker
    ooooh, war
it's an enemy to all mankind
the point of war blows my mind
    war has caused unrest
    within the younger generation
    induction then destruction
    who wants to die
    aaaaah, war-huh
    good god y'all
    what is it good for
    absolutely nothing
say it, say it, say it
    war, huh
    what is it good for
    absolutely nothing
    listen to me

    war, huh, yeah
    what is it good for
    absolutely nothing
    uh-huh
    war, huh, yeah
    what is it good for
    absolutely nothing
    say it again y'all
    war, huh, good god
    what is it good for
    absolutely nothing
    listen to me

war, it ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
    war, it's got one friend
    that's the undertaker
    ooooh, war, has shattered
    many a young mans dreams
made him disabled, bitter and mean
life is much to short and precious
to spend fighting wars these days
    war can't give life
it can only take it away

    ooooh, war, huh
    good god y'all
    what is it good for
    absolutely nothing
    say it again

    war, whoa, lord
    what is it good for
    absolutely nothing
    listen to me

war, it ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
war, friend only to the undertaker
    peace, love and understanding
tell me, is there no place for them today
they say we must fight to keep our freedom
but lord knows there's got to be a better way

    ooooooh, war, huh
    good god y'all
    what is it good for
    you tell me
say it, say it, say it, say it

    war, huh
    good god y'all
    what is it good for
    stand up and shout it
    nothing
