slint'in efsanevi spiderland'ini kapatan şarkısı good morning captain var. vokalimiz şarkı boyunca böyle sakin sakin anlatıyor olayını ama pasif agresif bir şekilde, bunu belli ederek. sonunda ise kayışı koparıyor ve o an devreye giriyor, i miss youuauuaaaaaarrgggh diye, bildin mi? şimdi ordaki samimiyet, o olmamışlık hissini bir orada buluyorsunuz, bir de burada. bug albümünü kapatan don't şarkısının tamamı o an'dan oluşuyor bu sefer. albüm boyunca nispeten korunmuş, dizginlenmiş ruhu bu şarkıda açığa çıkıyor j mascis beyin why don't you like me şeklinde. bu açıdan bu iki albümü aslında pek alakaları olmasa da birbirine benzettim. ayrıca o ne gitar tonlarıdır arkadaş. bu saçları değirmende ağartmamış belli, hangi pedalı hangisine eklesem de şu sesleri elde etsem derken ağartmış, ama çok erken çökmemiş mi adam gandalf gibi geziyo ortalıkta. evet kaynatmayalım, sonuçta süper bir albümün doruğa ulaşmış kapanışı oluyor don't.

edit: ianism abimin uyarısıyla böğüren hatta kayıtlar esnasında boğazını kanatan kişinin j mascis değil lou barlow olduğunu öğrendim. şarkıyı yazan j mascis ama barlow bu şarkıyı mascis'e söylüyormuş neden sevmiyorsun bizi ayağına. o dönem j mascis'in ve grubun problemli bir zamanıymış. zaten green mind'da da barlow yok, artık sebadoh'u var onun. neden sevmiyon diye bağıra bağıra gitmiş yani. ancak 2005'te geri dönüyor ve beyond, farm, i bet on sky yine beraber kaydediliyor. öyle bir durum işte.

shania twain'in greatest hits (bkz: 2004) albümündeki üç yeni şarkıdan biri ve tek balad olanı. tam yazılışı "don't!" biçimindedir, şanaya'nın pek bir sevdiği ünlemlerden bu da nasibini alıvermiştir. ilk duyduğumda neye uğradığımı şaşırmıştım; topu topu iki sene öncesinde i'm gonna getcha good! diye çığıran kadının sesi feci yaşlı çıkıyordu.

bir party for two kadar tutulmasa da amerikan country radyoları kaçınılmaz olarak sevmiştir bu parçayı. özellikle de "don't pretend that it's ok. things won't get better that way." biçimindeki sözleri insanın yüreğini burkar. sizden ve aşkınızdan umudu kesen sevgiliye söylenecek en hüzünlü şarkılardandır.
