en karanlık ve en güzel tricky albümü kanımca. ilk defa dinleyen insana kesinlikle 'ben hayatımda böyle şey dinlemedim' dedirten yapıt. müzik değil lan bu. başka bi isim bulmak lazım buna.

analyze me şarkısında 'martinaaa! benim ollll!!!' diye kendimden geçtiğim albümdür ayrıca.

scarface'nin yolundan giderek suc alemine gider yapar lakin scarface'nin ahlakcı didaktizmine enfes bir alternatif sunar. scarface in italyanına karşın awdf'in irlandası daha bi "wiseguy" dır. camonte tutuklanma anında polislerin ayagına kapanan bir korkak iken sullivan bunu ismini yok etmek pahasına genc bebelere örnek olmamak için yapar. sert adamların cesareti yerine "tanrı"nın cesaretini seçer. bi nevi şahadet-i kelime işte, ölmeden önce. yiğidi öldür, hakkını yeme. kanunların suçlu yaratmadaki potansiyelini de din adamı naifliğinde verir ki, sucun dogasına inmede i am fugitive from a chain gang'ın klas bir takipçisidir bu yönüyle.

angels with dirty faces’in prodüktörlerin ahlakçı muhafazakârlığından payını aldığı bariz bir gerçekliktir. sadece bu film mi? elbette hayır. 30’larda hollywood anakarasında çekilen birçok gangster filminde ahlaksal vaazlar verildiğini, kanun adamlarının etrafında, dolayısıyla mevcut toplumsal-ekonomik-siyasal dizgenin yanında saf tutulduğunu saptıyoruz. yine de söz konusu film, prodüktörlerin gazabına kurnazca galebe çalan bir filmdir. konuyu ado kyrou şöyle özetlemişti:

"michael curtiz’in ünlü filmini hatırlayın: "angels with dirty faces". yiğit bir rahip [amerikan filmlerinde rahipler hep yiğittir] (pat o’brien) ve hain bir haydut (james cagney), altı çocuğun "ruhunu" kurtarma konusunda tartışırlar. çocuklar cagney’i bir kahraman gibi görmektedir ve hayran oldukları adam yakalandığında, onun erkekçe, ödün vermez, şerefli bir kişi gibi davranacağını umdukları son dakikalarını endişe ve gururla beklemektedirler. rahip, idam mahkûmunun hücresinde uzun bir söylevden sonra "iblis"i, elektrikli sandalyeye giderken çok korkmuş gibi davranarak ruhunu kurtarmaya razı eder. böylece altı çocuğun gözündeki kahraman yok edilecektir. peki, filmi seyreden ve haydudun korkusunun aslında ulu bir cesaret olduğunu bilen binlerce çocuk ne olacak? bu ve buna benzer daha birkaç film, yapımcıların yüceltmek istedikleri ahlak değerlerini altüst eder..."
