harika ve kıymeti bilinmemiş bir marion hansel filmidir. müthiş bir stephen rea performansı vardır bu filmde. jane birkin'in müthiş sesinden aşk mektupları duyulur. uyarlandığı kitabın adı li olduğu için bu adla da bilinen bir filmdir.

filmde hong kong'da mahsur kalmış bir gemide, yolculuk halini bir türlü sonlandıramayan, geri dönmeyi öğrenememiş bri denizci olan nikos (stephen rea) kendisine hizmet edip karşılığında yiyecek almak için ısrar eden 10 yaşındaki çinli kız li ile tanışır. ama nikos lanet bir heriftir tabi, zira kendiyle ilgili çözemediği sorunlar vardır, sürekli afyon tüttürür, hatta li bir yerde, "if you smoke so much you can't come back from the journey" der bizim herife çok önemli bir andır filmde, zira nikos'un afyon tutkusu deniz tutkusuyla, yolculuğun bitmesi korkusuyla paraleldir.

film bir modern zaman odyseus hikayesi olarak okunabilir, hayallere dalınabilir, ah çekilebilir, yine de hayatın ne noktasında izlendiği çok önemlidir, hayal dünyasından gerçeğe dönemeyenlere özellikle tavsiye edilir.
