arthur koestler'in the gost in the machine isimli kitabı, kavramın daha popüler olmasını sağlamış. ancak buradaki anlayış hayli farklı; zira buradaki hayalet, bilinci devirme gücüne sahip olan bilinçaltının ta kendisi. insanın sağduyulu yanını ezip nefret, şiddet gibi hareketlere sevkederek yıkıma sürükleyen, hayvansı yanını temsil ediyormuş.
