Anywhere But Here (~ Buradan çok uzakta) ' Filminin Konusu : Bay City adlı küçük kasabadaki monoton hayatından bıkan Adele August (Sarandon), günün birinde ‘Burası olmasın da neresi olursa olsun’ diyerek, ergenlik çağındaki kızı Ann’le (Portman) beraber yola koyulur. Geride doğup büyüdüğü kasabayı, ailesini ve ikinci evliliğini yaptığı kocasını bırakarak 1978 model Mercedes’iyle Beverly Hills’e varır. Aslında kızı bu olan biteni hiç onaylamamakta ve annesinin davranışlarından nefret etmektedir. Genç kız üniversiteye gidip özgürlüğünü kazanmak derdindeyken, annesi de onu film yıldızı yapmak ister.
