"ravendas salbonaren was born the third daughter of house salbonaren, the sixteenth noble house of the drow city of menzoberranzen. however, she did not share the honor and prestige afforded to her sisters due to her mixed blood. ravendas' father was a half-elf from the surface who was captured by a raiding party, sold to house salbonaren as a slave, and eventually captured the matron's fancy. she had him appointed house weaponsmaster and took him as consort for a time. two years later, she gave birth to a daughter. however, ravendas' "tainted" blood made her a prime candidate for a sacrifice to lloth, but her father, bragen, managed to intercede on her behalf and she was spared to grow up in house salbonaren as an adopted commoner, not as a noble daughter.

bragen took her under his wing and acted as both protector and father as ravendas was growing up. due to her low status in the family, she was not sent to arach-tilnith to train as a priestess of lloth, so bragen began teaching her the ways of the blade. she learned quickly the ways of both warrior and assassin, using her inate dark elven abilities to supplement them.

just as ravendas was approaching the year of womanhood, house salbonaren was invaded by a rival house of the city. later, she found out that bragen had orchestrated the attack in order to save her from sacrifice. house salbonaren was utterly destroyed and ravendas and bragen fled to the surface.

for several years, father and daughter travelled together, selling their skills as assassins and warriors. however, they soon started becoming at odds with one another until one day they parted ways. ravendas travelled alone for awhile, plying her trade as an assassin throughout the realms. however, upon running across an abandoned inn just on the outskirts of silverymoon, ravendas decided that she needed to settle down for awhile. she purchased the inn and named it the black orchid. thanks to her many contacts throught the realms and her acquaintance with a dark elven chef of renown, she was able to stock the inn with the best food and drinks to be found in the realms.

ravendas salbonaren is a young woman of half-drow descent. she appears about 25 years of age (though her real age is around 200). she is 5'4" and slender with dusky skin and piercing blue-violet eyes. her hair is silver with a few tiny black streaks interspersed within it. while tending bar at the inn, she dresses very much like a typical barmaid: a flowing white blouse laced halfway and full black skirts. when plying her other trade as an assassin and mercenary, she dresses in black leather armor with blades of varying sizes sheathed upon her body. upon her left wrist, she wears a small folding hand crossbow and a small quarrel of bolts tipped with poison...either to kill or to stun."
